Complying with the Stay-at-Home Order

With gyms closed due to the statewide stay-at-home order, enacted to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, Stephen needed an alternative to stay in shape. Check out his review of a free option, available in the Google Play Store and the App Store.

first became aware of the “Home Workouts – No Equipment” app while reading the news. There was an advertisement for a workout app for women, and I thought, “I wonder if there is one for men?”  (See, advertising does work.) I did some searching on the Apple App Store, simply typing in “Home Workout,” and there’s a lot! So then, I looked at the reviews, and this one has over 24,000 ratings, with 4.9 stars out of five. I also noticed that it had a free version, as well as a subscription, so I downloaded the free version and it’s been totally sufficient for what I wanted to do.

This app provides daily workout routines for all your main muscle groups, with beginner, intermediate, and advanced workouts. It requires no equipment. All the exercises can be performed with just your body weight. There are warm-up and stretching routines, and it has animation and video guidance for each exercise so that you can make sure that you use the right form during each exercise.

What I like about this app is it only takes between 10 and 20 minutes, depending on the routine, has a voice coach, and background music of my choosing. It can track your progress, your weight, and you can adjust the routine to make it a little easier or harder – for your comfort level.

The only thing I don’t like about this app is that it has ads that must be closed out before proceeding, which I find to be a small nuisance. For $5.99, you can remove the ads, but I haven’t done that. If it was a really big deal, I would.

I use it every morning on my iPhone 10. It helps me loosen up, stretch, and get some resistance training as I start my day.
