Mattie Chitwood is the kind of person who prefers not to be in the spotlight – she said so herself. While that may be true, it’s likely that anyone who talks with Mattie for just a few minutes will immediately feel at ease and enjoy her cheerful, kind personality. It’s also easy to see Mattie finds joy in spending time with her family every chance she gets. With more than 15 years in accounting, it’s a safe bet she enjoys working with numbers too – something not everyone can say!

“Mattie is a quick learner and is always up for a challenge!” said Director of Accounting, Darcie Nguyen. “She takes a project, jumps right in and figures things out. She’s detail-oriented, which is important for someone in accounting.”

Darcie continued, “Mattie has taken on several new job duties since joining the Twin Valley Family of Companies and is always eager to continue learning and growing in her career. She’s wonderful to work with and she’s been a great addition to the team.”

7 Questions with Mattie

You recently joined the Twin Valley & SKT team, correct? What is your role with the company, and what are some of your responsibilities? 

Yes, I started my position as staff accountant in July 2022. My responsibilities include performing all month end duties, payroll and filling in for accounts payable and receivable as needed.

What is your previous experience and education? How has that experience prepared you for your current role?

I have a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Wichita State University and have worked the last 15 years in public accounting for a CPA firm in Wichita. With my previous job, I gained a lot of experience with payroll and the general ledger to create financial reports for multiple companies. My position with Twin Valley & SKT uses that knowledge, however, it has been a new challenge to learn accounting for the telecommunications industry.

What makes Twin Valley & SKT a great place to work?

Everyone has been so welcoming and helpful. The family-oriented atmosphere is something I need in this season of life. I feel like I can juggle having a successful career while taking care of my family.

How does the hybrid-remote work model fit your lifestyle? 

This has been such a great transition for me to have a hybrid work schedule. It has given me the flexibility to be available for my kids and their activities more, while also completing my responsibilities at work.

Please tell us about your family.

My husband, Rodney, and I have been married for 12 years and have two daughters. We live on a farm outside of Conway Springs.

Where is your favorite vacation spot?

We enjoy vacationing in the mountains. Our favorite trip so far was going snowmobiling outside of Red River, New Mexico. 

What’s something on your bucket list?

I would love to go on an Alaskan cruise.
