For our annual directory cover photo contest, SKT customers submitted 27 entries, showing off the beauty of Southeast Kansas. Thank you to all the participants!
Cash prizes were awarded for first, second, and third places. This year’s cover photo was submitted by Judith Moore, of Atlanta, Kan.
Judy Moore, an amateur photographer from Atlanta, Kansas, has been taking photos for more than 20 years. She especially likes to capture images of old automobiles, old trucks, and old barns throughout Cowley County. She comments that it’s getting harder to find the old barns now, as they are being torn down.
When Judy looked out her window during a good snow two or three years ago, she couldn’t resist venturing out to get the perfect shot of their Massey Ferguson tractor that would become this year’s cover photo. The tractor was purchased used by the Moore’s when they moved to their farm years ago, and it still runs. In fact, they still use it to feed round bales to their horses! Even though they’ve had opportunities to sell it, Judy says that they’ll keep this old tractor… until it rusts away.
Second place was awarded to Zach Blair, also of Atlanta, for his photo “Reflection on Still Water.” Kayci Bowman, of Burden Kansas, took third place with her photo of the Burden Water Tower.
